The Canversation podcast is a new platform for industry experts and the Intralox team to connect on canmaking’s hottest topics. Each episode will focus on a specific theme and feature a variety of guests to bring you insights, industry updates, technology news, and more.

Episode one focuses on productivity in can manufacturing. Intralox experts Jack Bathke and Jasper Joosten join host and engineer Erin Oakes to discuss challenges and innovations shaping the industry. They also share the first details of an exciting new service aimed at increasing line productivity.

Defining Productivity

Productivity is more than a buzzword at Intralox—it’s a core value. Bathke defines productivity as increasing value and reducing costs for our customers. Joosten adds that Intralox’s culture of ideas is directly guided by solving customer challenges.

For today’s can manufacturers, productivity may translate to several important factors on the line.

  • Reducing product loss
  • Enabling higher throughput
  • Handling a wider variety of SKUs
  • Eliminating downtime and manual intervention

Today’s Challenges

Canmakers are handling a wider, more diverse product range than ever before. Meanwhile, a shrinking workforce and increasing demands on output and resource efficiency offer more challenges. According to Bathke, our customers need “higher line output with less human intervention and less product loss.”

Joosten adds another aspect of canmaking productivity: the need for greater resource efficiency. How can canmakers make the most product from the same amount of raw material? Reducing spoilage and product loss are crucial factors in meeting that goal.

Results in Action

How are Intralox innovations improving can manufacturing? Joosten cites two offerings: Series 9000 belting for can washers and our new Tight Transfer solution, S570 belting with nosebar transfer unit. Developed in response to customer needs, these technologies give OEMs and end users many advantages.
