Customer Objectives

Vikomar, a leading Norwegian herring and mackerel processor, was experiencing challenges on fillet lines between equipment. Their belting’s hinges created harborage points for contaminants, which made sanitation harder. Dedicated to both food safety and sustainably providing a premium product, Vikomar sought to optimize these operations to mitigate hygiene risks and downtime.

Intralox Execution

Intralox recommended a customized solution: our ThermoDrive Series 8050 belting in A23 material with ZeroSplice technology. ThermoDrive belting eliminates harborage points, simplifying both sanitation and maintenance. Including ZeroSplice technology further reduces labor and downtime by enabling quick, easy connection of ThermoDrive belting sections without splicing. An Intralox Application Engineer joined Vikomar on-site to ensure the retrofit went smoothly and that the new design met their rigorous HACCP compliance guidelines.

Results

The Intralox solution improved Vikomar’s operations. Its simplified belt removal and handling reduced breakages and eliminated sanitation rework, and its reliable performance enabled maintenance-free operation. Cleaning sessions are now consistent and effective, each requiring 30 fewer minutes of labor than their previous solution. Thanks to the improvements, Vikomar can operate independently in remote locations rich with high-quality fish.

We began with a short conveyor retrofit and were amazed by the results. This led us to retrofit our longest conveyor—43 meters—and now we enjoy maintenance-free operation and exceptional cleanability.
