Leading ginger processor Miyamae dedicated a lot of time to cleaning modular plastic belts on two overhead conveyors between different batches of ginger. Due to their ginger’s high salt content, hinges are difficult to clean and belt life is shortened to less than one and a half years. Miyamae also experienced frequent line stoppages caused by lateral belt movement. Every time a small lateral movement was observed, engineering personnel were called in to repair the belts.
Miyamae uses Intralox belting throughout their plant, so they naturally turned to Intralox for a solution to their sanitation and belt life problems. To simplify installation and any future belting replacements, Miyamae opted for alternative joining method ThermoLace™ plastic hinge lacing. ThermoLace eases service on difficult-to-access conveyors, such as the overhead conveyors at the Miyamae plant, and allows easy belt removal if required for sanitation.
ThermoDrive is now the most prevalent Intralox belting at Miyamae. Zero pre-tension ThermoDrive belting allows innovative conveyor design to improve sanitation access and hygienic performance, and reduces maintenance costs while enhancing belt life. The current belts are still going strong three years after installation.
ThermoDrive’s zero pre-tension, sprocket-driven system has entirely eliminated lateral movement that previously required constant repairs by Miyamae engineering personnel.
