Aconcagua Foods wanted to find a solution for issues with
maintenance, downtime and a short belt life. These challenges were critical since the plant operated 24/7 during a 100-day production season. One particular line processed approximately 16 tons per hour. During this process, remnants of abrasive peach fuzz and dirt would get caught in the belt hinges, causing rods and sprockets to become worn quickly and break. Repairs led to unscheduled downtime and increased maintenance costs. The customer had installed a local competitor’s modular plastic belt that needed replacing every season, and needed to be in stock in case of a breakdown emergency.
Aconcagua Foods had trusted Intralox with one of their most critical
applications. The S1700 belt was installed in their highest volume receiving line and was seen as a durable, high quality product for the company. After learning how ThermoDrive could withstand the dust and abrasion in critical areas like the peach pitting lines, Aconcagua Foods replaced the competitor’s MPB belts with ThermoDrive in one of their pitting lines.
Now in its 6th season, the ThermoDrive solution installed at the Aconcagua Foods pitting line has more than proved itself as the perfect solution for that application. The homogeneous surface and lack of hinges on the belt allow it to withstand the aggravating dust and abrasion. The customer now sees zero unscheduled downtime and zero maintenance costs during the season. ThermoDrive paid for itself after just the second year since it did not need continual replacing like the previous solution did.
“Because of the great performance of the ThermoDrive belts, we have had zero unexpected downtime and maintenance costs during this season. We have measured considerable savings in material replacement, cleaning times, and premature wear – so much more that we are planning to continue retrofitting more belts into ThermoDrive,” says Guillermo Torrealba, Maintenance Manager of Aconcagua Foods. The rest of the plant’s pitting lines, as well as other areas of the plant, have been retrofitted with ThermoDrive this season. Aconcagua Foods plans to retrofit even more conveyors for the next season in other areas of the plant.
