The plant in Fleury-Merogis
produces over two million buns per day on two lines to supply 1,000 QSRs
(Quick Service Restaurant) in France. While several conveyors on the
line were recently upgraded with Intralox technology to optimize
performance, the inclines at the outfeed of the dough mixers were
causing maintenance and sanitation issues.
The inclines were
equipped with flat belts with a textile base. The high water absorption
dough was difficult to clean effectively from the surface of these
belts, and the belt edges quickly became damaged due to frequent
mistracking. The plant had to replace the flat belts regularly every two

While this technology was new for the Fleury-Merogis plant, the new
East Balt plant in Aix-en-Provence had recently installed it with great
success. Trusting in Intralox’s expertise in bakery conveying solutions,
East Balt forged ahead with the ThermoDrive installation with the
projected goal of zero contamination risk from belt edge damage.
