Favid meats are sold to industrial food manufacturers in more than thirty countries around the world. The company’s plant in Parthenay, France, outputs 30,000 tons of poultry and pork meat products per year.
The Parthenay plant was looking to upgrade its conveyance technology at a 90-degree transfer, where empty plastic trays exiting the freezer are turned and transferred back into the production process. The existing pusher arm transfer technology sometimes caused blockages and was not an ideal solution from a safety standpoint (it has moving parts and must conform to European CE regulations for worker safety).
To replace the problematic pusher arm technology, Favid chose a complete equipment solution from Intralox—an Activated Roller Belt™ (ARB) 90-degree passive-off conveyor. Employing patented conveyance technology, the ARB 90-degree transfer conveyor automates the case turning process without using moving devices, reducing maintenance costs and safety risks.
The retrofit was simple, as the Intralox machine fit into the existing space and required minimal adjustments to integrate into the processing line. Mr. Yves Plaino, the maintenance manager at the plant, reported, “I really like the simplicity of the solution. The trays are consistently transferred with equal gapping and correct orientation, without any moving parts that pose a threat to employee safety.”
Since the installation, Favid has confirmed that worker safety has been improved as well as maintenance reduced.
