Socopa Optimizes Production Line Layout with Intralox's ARB™ Technology

Background
The Socopa Group produces and markets a variety of fresh, cooked, and frozen foods for European retailers and restaurants.

Problem
After two new thermal tray sealing machines were installed at the company’s largest production site in Cherré, France, there remained a limited amount of space available on the production line at the machine outfeed.  After exiting the machine in two lines, trays traveling widthwise needed to be merged into one lane before entering a subsequent machine. Determining an efficient, automated solution to this challenge was difficult due to the line’s space constraints.

Solution
Intralox’s new Activated Roller Belt™ (ARB) technology proved to be the perfect solution to the case handling challenge. Socopa installed an ARB equipped conveyor after the tray sealer to continuously merge the exiting trays into one lane, enforcing proper spacing in between product batches. The belt’s rollers, when activated, automatically direct the trays to one side of the conveyor, positioning them for entry into the detection machine.

Results
Because Intralox’s ARB merge is a compact, jam-free system, it provided an optimal solution for Socopa. The reliable Intralox system accommodated the trays traveling widthwise and completed the merge within a distance of approximately 1.5 meters.
